Afrika Armadeus
"AFRIKA AMADEUS" was a painting that came from within. A figurative, imaginative, abstract, painting to the Mozart music from "Out of Africa". Chris was the reason for my owning this tape. Chris, our son, was home from the States for Christmas 1991 for three weeks. He brought with him a beautiful collection of music. Peter Griffith, Carol's son, called by at Easter (very sick). His soul was immediately filled with this music.
From then on, my painting seemed to be structured around Peter and his beloved Africa. Chris appeared as "Christopher Robin saying his prayers". I played this (piano) to Chris when he was a small child. I appeared over these two boys. A monkey sat protecting Chris. A piano appeared; my beloved instrument.
Movement everywhere pertaining to music.
A very emotional painting.
Carcoar - Into the Woods
My painting - "Carcoar Into the Woods" - is a painting of Carcoar with various characters from a drama/musical "Into the Woods". I had seen this drama/musical whilst painting this picture.
The story is a combination of various fairytales - Cinderella, Jack and the Bean Stalk, The Baker and His Wife, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel. The fairytales are very cleverly intertwined and makes an interesting drama/musical.
Looking into my painting you will discover The Baker and his Wife having it off in mid foreground. The old witch is beside the fence, with Grandma. Prince Charming is just above. Amongst these characters is the Baker's wife with her child. The old wolf is under the tree beside the left side of the church. Red Riding Hood is sneaking beside the Vicar's house. Jack is up in the right hand corner holding hands with Rapunzel.
Carcoar has been a favourite location of mine. It is a beautiful little historic village, Central New South Wales.
